TAEAN, Feb. 15 (Korea Bizwire)A farm in Taean County, South Chungcheong Province is at the center of attention for a new aquaponics system that uses organic materials from fish farms to grow crops.

‘Seouchae Farm’ in Taean’s Namsan-ri Village grows vegetables in a 1,000㎡ greenhouse using an eco-friendly aquaponics system that does not use any pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Aquaponics, a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics, uses organic materials collected from fish farms to grow crops. The water used for cultivating the crops is cleansed and reused at fish farms.

Vegetables grown on an aquaponics farm have been known to contain lower nitrogen levels with freshness that lasts longer than other produce.

The premium vegetables grown at Seouchae Farm are popular among high-end hotels and restaurants for their unique fragrance and softness.

“Aquaponics is eco-friendly, anti-pest, and highly productive,” said Kang Seong-tak, head of Seouchae Farm. “We will continue to develop new technologies to produce eco-friendly agricultural goods that our customers can trust.”
