SEOUL, Jan. 16 (Korea Bizwire)Digital cameras, once sidelined by smartphones, are capturing the hearts of South Korean Generation Z.

Many old digital cameras have been discontinued, and are available only as second-hand products on Instagram or other online platforms.

Others run into old digital cameras at home, used by their family members 10 to 20 years ago.

“Nowadays, it doesn’t matter how a photo or a video can depict the same view that we see with our own eyes. It’s more about taking photos of a scene that I like,” said Jeong Yae-eun, an 18-year-old high school student.

Gen Zers argue that the low resolution, distorted colors, and lack of image stabilization on old digital cameras work as points of attraction.

“The underlying context is that the younger generation wants to grasp something beyond what just exists as digital data,” culture critic Kim Seong-soo said.
