GANGNEUNG, South Korea, Feb. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s mixed doubles curling team of Jang Hye-ji and Lee Ki-jeong beat the United States Friday for their second win at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Jang and Lee routed the U.S. siblings of Becca and Matt Hamiltonm, 9-1, in the fourth match of the preliminary mixed doubles event held at Gangneung Curling Center.
Mixed doubles curling is being contested for the first time at these Olympic Games.
In the morning session, they lost 3-8 to the Norwegian duo of Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten.
As a result, the South Korean team ranked 5th with two wins and two losses, with four teams — China, Canada, Norway and Athletes from Russia — leading the table with three wins and one loss.
After the preliminary round robin session through Sunday, the top four teams out of eight will advance to the semi-finals slated for Monday.
