SUWON, Mar. 14 (Korea Bizwire)A municipal government in South Korea said Thursday it is pushing to co-host a border-crossing marathon event with North Korea.

The Gyeonggi Province government said it aims to stage the “DMZ Peace Marathon” event to celebrate the first anniversary of the summit between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the border village of Panmunjom on April 27, 2018.

“We’re currently discussing the marathon event with North Korea,” an official said. “We are waiting for North Korea’s letter of consent.”

The organizers said they plans to offer a marathon course between South Korea’s Paju and North Korea’s Kaesong.

But since border crossing requires permission from Seoul’s unification ministry, as well as the United Nations Command, it’s still unclear whether event will be held as scheduled.

The organizers said they’re also reviewing the possibility of postponing the event to May.

“At this moment, we are not sure whether the event will be staged, or when it would be held,” the official said. “We first have to get a confirmation from North Korea, then we’ll have to discuss with the unification ministry.”
