S. Korean Teens Spend 2 Hours Daily on Online Broadcasts

SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean teenagers spend two hours a day watching online broadcasts streamed by individual creators, a survey showed Sunday, with YouTube being the most popular platform.

According to the survey compiled by the Korea Communications Standards Commission conducted on 1,058 respondents, South Korean teenagers spent 114.9 minutes every day watching such online video content.

By platform, YouTube accounted for 36.4 percent of the material, followed by AfreecaTV with 16.8 percent and Twitch with 16.6 percent. V Live and Naver TV took up 11.7 percent and 11.6 percent, respectively.

Around 22.7 percent of the respondents said they enjoy watching gaming-related content, while another 19.7 percent were interested in food-related programs. Other major areas of interest among teenagers included talk shows, beauty programs and music streaming.

The commission said its research showed 0.4 percent of teenagers enjoyed watching adult content as well.

Of the respondents, 76.3 percent said creators responsible for such programs should be regulated, while 7.6 percent claimed they should not be subject to regulation.
