SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc.’s Ultra-HD (UHD) television sets won top evaluations from a U.S. consumer magazine, industry sources said Tuesday.
Based on its research on the resolution, audio and other features of 250 high-end TVs in the market, Consumer Reports named LG Electronics’ Signature OLED TV W “Best TV Overall.”
The magazine said the model stands out by being slimmer than rivals and for having High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology that allows screens to deliver vivid displays by optimizing brightness depending on color.
Samsung Electronics Co.’s 75-inch UN75MU800D model was also named the best jumbo-sized 4K TV, Consumer Reports said.
“With prices falling, 4K content options expanding, and features such as high-dynamic range becoming more widespread, now might be the time you decide to buy a 4K TV,” Consumer Reports said.
“We find that OLED TVs deliver a truly stunning picture, in part because they do a great job of displaying the blackest parts of an image,” it added “However, OLEDs remain relatively pricey compared with most LCD-based sets of the same size.”
LG Electronics currently promotes OLED TVs that boast improved resolution by having each pixel on the screen emit light. The feature compares to Samsung Electronics’ QLED models, which adopt so-called quantum-dot technology but still need backlighting.
