DANGJIN, July 24 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s move to switch to clean energy is being put into practice. The Dangjin-Eco Solar Power Plant, which was originally conceived as a coal-fired power plant before being changed to a renewable energy facility, largely in line with the Moon administration’s ambitious green energy-oriented policies, was officially completed on Thursday.
Equipped with 9.8MW solar power facilities and energy storage devices (ESS) on a sprawling site (303,965 ㎡) in Seokmun-myeon, Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, this renewable energy power plant has the capacity of generating and distributing 13,000MWh of electricity on an annual basis – enough to power 3,500 households for one year.
The switch to solar power, is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5,756 tons per year. This is the first case in South Korea in which a coal-fired power plant has been converted into a renewable energy facility, said an official with the South Chungcheong Provincial Government.
