JINCHEON, Nov. 18 (Korea Bizwire)North Chungcheong Province’s Jincheon County, South Korea’s largest hardwood charcoal producer, is building an eco-friendly hardwood charcoal industrial cluster.

The county plans to invest 4.8 billion won (US$4.3 million) to build a hardwood charcoal industrial complex on 36,000 square meters of land in Baekgok District by 2024.

Jincheon is famously known for producing 960 tons of hardwood charcoal annually in Baekgok District, which accounts for 70 percent of all hardwood charcoal production in the country.

The county also joined hands with local hardwood charcoal distributor Hosan Industries Co. to ensure that the new complex is designed to be eco-friendly.

Hosan Industries plans to introduce hardwood charcoal production facilities as well as carbonization systems normally used at jjimjilbangs (public saunas) and outdoor spas.

The drying carbonization system recycles dry gas emitted during the production or use of hardwood charcoal, raising efficiency to produce high quality hardwood charcoal while preventing contamination by reducing the amount of smoke and odor.
