Sad Story of a Young Zebra Who Escaped and Ran around Downtown Seoul

SEOUL, March 25 (Korea Bizwire) Sero is a male foal who used to follow its mother and father all day around, enjoying their love. Unfortunately, his world fell apart when his mother Lulu passed away in 2021 and his father Garo followed her to heaven the next year.

Sero can’t forget the day his mom died. He witnessed a crowd of people making a big commotion over her staggering body, and after that, she started to disappear. Last year, his dad also passed away.

Left alone, Sero started acting strangely and getting into trouble, even fighting with the kangaroo in the next cage. He became increasingly agitated and unable to enter the house.

On March 23, Sero roamed around Gwangjin-gu, Seoul for three hours. It turned out that Sero began to act erratically following the parent zebra’s death and on Thursday he jumped over the fence of the Children’s Grand Park, Seoul.

According to the park, Sero escaped from the park at 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, but was captured within three hours and is being tenderly cared for by zookeepers. The first tranquilizer shot didn’t work well, so they had trouble capturing him alive.

As Sero ran for hours through the center of Seoul and was featured on major news media, many citizens felt sorry for him and his sad story.

Sero’s mom, Lulu, was born in 2005, and his dad, Garo, was born in 1999. Zebras live for about 25 years, and both mom and dad were confirmed to have died of natural causes.

Sero, born in 2019, is now just over three years old and about to enter puberty in human years.

As the only zebra in the park, the zookeepers took great care of him, but he became increasingly sensitive and misbehaved. At last, he broke through a wooden fence and ran out of the zoo to roam the streets.

The park plans to bring in a female zebra next year to live with Sero.
