Seoul, July 14 (Korea Bizwire) – With the increase of ‘for-pets’, people who invest in their pets freely, the sales of vacation items for pets are soaring.
The pet product market, which was previously concentrated on practical products such as food and snacks for pets is broadening its product family.
According to the online shopping site Auction, sales of pet products during the recent month (June 11 to July 10) showed a 48 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Of particular note, as the number of people who take their pets on long distance vacations increased, the sales of car seats and safety belts for pets jumped to approximately four times the sales last year (262%) and the sales of carriers and strollers almost tripled (195%).
As outdoor activities increase, outdoor products for pets are also selling well. Sales increased for products such as pest prevention supplies for pets (42%), plastic bags (194%) and wet tissues (195%).
Special supplies for pets are also noticeable. Beachwear, hats, and sunglasses for pets are available, and even ‘cool scarves’, scarves that lower body temperature when wrapped around the pet’s neck, are being sold. Umbrellas for pets make them able to accompany the owner outdoors on rainy days.
Auction officials say, “Because of the aging society, and the increase in single-person households, dogs and cats are no longer thought of as ‘pets’. They are more like life companions, and that kind of acknowledgment changed the sales of products for pets.”
