SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – With the intense summer heat continuing to take a toll, sales of hair and hair-loss products have multiplied fivefold with the onset of not only the heat but also high UV rays.
The e-commerce website Auction said today that hair-related products including scalp massagers and hair loss treatments grew 498 percent in the month of July compared with the same period last year.
Hair cleaning products that help wash away and control oil, sweat and other secretions grew 533 percent as well, while sales of hair-loss shampoo grew by 10 percent.
Meanwhile, demand for hats and parasols grew exponentially. Sales of parasols grew 83 percent, and they have become especially popular with men, who accounted for 54 percent of total parasol revenue.
Sales of straw hats grew 37 percent from last year in time for the summer holiday season, while baseball caps enjoyed a boost of 9 percent in sales.
Lee Yu-yeong, the beauty section chief at Auction, said that many customers were looking to scalp-related products as the number of people, both men and women, who experience hair loss continues to increase yearly due to diet, stress and a lack of exercise.
“Especially, this year,” said Lee, “hair products have seen an increase in sales because of the heat wave, making consumers think that hair loss may become worse because of the heat and UV rays.”
