SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Korea Bizwire) – A shift in color trends for home appliances is playing out as the consumer electronics industry rushes to introduce increasingly dark toned products in the market.

According to industry watchers, Korean tech giants Samsung and LG are launching new refrigerator and washing machines in black or metallic hues.

Samsung Electronics, which made use of metallic tones in their premium-level refrigerator line-up, set to expand the color across varied product portfolios. The ‘Family Hub’, launched last March, was a good example in mirroring this new trend. Samsung limited the color choice for the new hub to black caviar; no other color options are available.

LG Electronics also joined the dark color fray, with the introduction of black stainless steel appliances featuring sophisticated design.

This trend is gaining momentum as more consumers perceive home appliances in metal or black as upscale, among other things, making dark colors stand out from the mostly white colored pack.

White goods, a byword for white home appliances, was first conceived by General Electric, which wanted its home appliance line-up to have a clean image.
