Samsung and LG Set to Compete with Launch of 2024 TV Models Amid Reviving Market

SEOUL, Mar. 4 (Korea Bizwire) –Following their simultaneous unveiling of integrated washer-dryer units last month, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are poised for another face-off with the concurrent launch of their 2024 TV models.

Amidst expectations of a market rebound focused on premium TVs after last year’s downturn, both tech giants are doubling down on their flagship offerings, boasting enhanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) features.

Samsung is gearing up for the release of its 2024 lineup, including the Neo QLED 8K, featuring the a 3rd Generation AI 8K Processor equipped with 512 neural networks.

This advanced processor aims to transform lower quality content into crisp 8K resolution while minimizing image distortion using AI deep learning technology. It also supports isolating voices to deliver clear dialogue.

Additionally, Samsung’s 2024 OLED TVs will incorporate OLED Glare Free technology, certified by UL, to maintain color accuracy and clarity while reducing light reflection, ensuring an immersive viewing experience even in daylight.

The company also plans to expand its ultra-large product range with the launch of 98-inch Neo QLED and UHD models, with a pre-sale event offering complimentary soundbars among other benefits running until March 14.

On the other hand, LG is set to introduce its 2024 LG OLED TVs and QNED TVs in South Korea on March 13, with a global release to follow. The 2024 LG OLED Evo series will feature the Alpha11 processor, boasting four times the AI deep learning performance compared to its predecessors.

This processor will correct image quality down to the pixel level within each frame, a first for LG TVs, which will now upscale online video service content in real-time. The sound system will also see an enhancement with two additional channels for ambient sounds.

The premium LCD TV lineup, QNED TV, will include the LG QNED Evo with the Alpha8 processor, offering 1.3 times the AI performance of the Alpha7, allowing for more precise brightness adjustments.

Both companies faced losses in their TV businesses in the last quarter of last year due to the prolonged economic downturn and sluggish demand for premium TVs. However, with major sporting events such as the 2024 Paris Olympics and UEFA Euro 2024 on the horizon, there is optimism for a resurgence in the premium TV market.

Market research firm Omdia projects a 1.8% increase in global TV shipments this year, with OLED TV shipments expected to rise by 12.9%. Quantum dot (QD)-LCD TVs, including Samsung’s QLED and LG’s QNED TVs, are also anticipated to see a 10.8% increase in shipments, particularly in the ultra-large, premium TV segment, which is expected to grow by 11.4%.

Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) predicts that advanced TV shipments, including OLED and 8K LCD TVs, will grow by an average of 10% annually, reaching 30 million units by 2027, with OLED TV sales expected to rise by an average of 14% annually to 9.2 million units by then.

DSCC analyst Lee Jae-hyuk forecasts that the 2024 premium TV market will see shipments and revenue grow by 6% and 2% respectively, driven by an increase in screen sizes and price hikes.
