SEOUL, Jul. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics and Tesla have officially rolled out their jointly developed energy management service, marking a significant step in smart home technology integration.

As of late last month, Tesla users in the United States can now utilize Samsung’s SmartThings Energy platform to monitor their Tesla solar panel power production, remaining energy levels, and electric vehicle battery charging status at a glance.

This collaboration, first announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas this January, represents the first partnership to leverage Tesla’s interface. The integration brings Tesla’s solar panels, batteries, and Powerwall (home energy storage system) into Samsung’s SmartThings Energy platform.

Users can now monitor and control their power consumption easily through the SmartThings application. Furthermore, when linked with Tesla’s Storm Watch app, the system can send alerts to Samsung TVs or mobile devices during severe weather conditions such as typhoons or heavy snowstorms.

In the event of a power outage or its imminent occurrence, SmartThings’ AI Energy Saving Mode can be activated to reduce power consumption of connected appliances, thereby extending the usage time of the Powerwall.

Samsung Electronics stated, “Connecting and automating Tesla products within SmartThings allows for a more sustainable and efficient smart home. It also helps reduce carbon footprints by managing household energy consumption.”

The collaboration came about due to Tesla’s high regard for Samsung’s smart home technology competitiveness, according to Samsung. The Korean tech giant views this partnership as a crucial opportunity to expand its energy management solutions beyond home appliances into various fields.

The service is currently available in the United States, with plans to expand to other regions in the future.
