SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung C&T Corp., the construction unit of Samsung Group, said Wednesday it had made new employee ID card cases by recycling waste helmets from its construction sites.
The company said that it was the first among domestic companies to make employee ID card cases using waste generated during business activities.
According to Samsung C&T, 4-8 tons of safety helmets are wasted after use at its construction sites on a yearly basis.
Thus far, they have been recycled mainly as a heat energy source after being made into an incineration fuel.
The builder plans to use them to make employee ID card cases as part of efforts to address environmental issues and to promote resource recycling.
A single expired safety helmet is enough to make seven employee ID card cases. Even for the lanyards that employees use to carry their ID cards, the company used fiber made by recycling waste PET bottles.
