SEOUL, Nov. 16 (Korea Bizwire)Samsung Electronics Co. announced a reshuffle of executives Thursday as a follow-up step to the appointment of new heads of its major business divisions late last month.

Through the regular reshuffle, the South Korean tech giant has promoted 221 executive-level employees, 99 of them from the crucial chip-making division, which has been posting record-breaking quarterly performances.

The number of promotions marked the highest figure since the 227 tallied in 2014. The latest appointments included the promotion of seven women.

Samsung Electronics said it promoted 27 executives to vice presidents to foster potential chief executive officers for its business arms.

The announcement came around two weeks after it named new heads for chips, mobile, and consumer electronics divisions against a backdrop of an absence of leadership last month.

The company has been seeking to appoint what it calls “younger” executives to key posts to keep up with latest trends in the industry. The average age of the heads of the three divisions now stands at 57, six years younger than previously.

Samsung Electronics’ de facto head Lee Jae-yong has been imprisoned since February on alleged links to a corruption scandal that led to the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye. A local court slapped a five-year jail term on him in August.
