Samsung Electronics Hires More Permanent Employees

SEOUL, May 16 (Korea Bizwire)The number of employees at Samsung Electronics has surpassed 100,000 for the first time in seven years.

Experts say this is due to massive hiring efforts in the company’s device solution division spurred on by the boom in the global semiconductor industry. More permanent employees have been hired while temporary hires fell.

According to Samsung Electronics’ first quarter report, the number of male employees at its headquarters office stood at 74,743 as of March of this year, while female employees numbered 27,208.

The figure for the combined total was 101,951 employees, which was a 2.2 percent increase from the 99,784 tabulated at the end of last year. The figures show a surprising 7.4 percent increase when compared year-on-year to March of 2017.

The number of employees at Samsung’s device solution division overlooking the company’s semiconductor operations stood at 50,794, a 12.5 percent increase from the previous year.

During the same period, the number of employees in the consumer electronics division dropped slightly from 13,358 to 12,753, while employment in the Internet and mobile division grew from 26,353 to 27,644.

The report also cited an increase of 8.2 percent in permanent workers totaling 101,280, while the number of temporary workers dropped slightly, from 685 to 671.

An industry observer speculated that Samsung Electronics will continue to hire employees pertaining to its semiconductor business, as the semiconductor industry is expected to continue to grow.

The same source went on to note that the fact that the number of permanent employees had grown was meaningful.
