SEOUL, Feb. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics announced on February 10 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Yuchang E&C, South Korea’s largest modular construction company, to jointly develop AI-powered smart modular buildings.
The partnership, formalized at Yuchang E&C’s Cheonan factory on February 6, aims to develop AI-integrated modular construction products and establish market leadership in the sector. Yuchang E&C, which pioneered modular construction in South Korea in 2003, has demonstrated its technical prowess through various projects spanning residential, educational, commercial, and military facilities.
Under the agreement, Samsung will integrate its SmartThings Pro AI solution into Yuchang’s modular buildings, along with AI-enabled appliances such as system air conditioners, digital signage, refrigerators, and washing machines. The collaboration will also incorporate approximately 4,200 SmartThings-compatible devices.
SmartThings Pro offers comprehensive management and control of various devices and systems, including AI appliances, temperature and motion sensors, doors, smart plugs, lighting, and HVAC systems. The partnership extends Samsung’s “Home AI” vision, which was unveiled at CES 2025, beyond residential spaces to include transportation, offices, and commercial facilities.
Samsung also plans to strengthen its position in the modular market by expanding collaboration on “Net Zero Home” initiatives, which aim to achieve carbon-neutral residential environments through efficient energy production and consumption.
“The combination of Samsung’s AI solutions and Yuchang E&C’s technical expertise will enable customers to experience differentiated AI features across various modular spaces,” said Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President Lim Seong-taek. “We will lead the market by introducing new AI-based modular spaces.”
Yuchang E&C CEO Jo Woo-jae expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration will create new value beyond traditional spatial concepts through user-centric smart modular construction. We will further strengthen our leadership in the modular construction market together with Samsung’s AI solutions.”
