SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest memory chipmaker, said Wednesday it will expand its partnership with the British chip design firm Arm to bolster the competitiveness of its foundry business.
As part of the collaboration, the South Korean chipmaker’s foundry division will work with Arm to optimize the design assets of Arm’s next-generation system-on-chip or Samsung’s latest gate-all-around (GAA) process technology, according to Samsung Electronics.
It will help Samsung Electronics’ fabless customers increase access to state-of-the-art GAA processes, and minimize the time and cost of next-generation product development.
GAA technology is a key next-generation semiconductor technology that overcomes transistor performance degradation caused by process miniaturization and increases data processing speed and power efficiency.
Samsung Electronics was the first in the world to introduce GAA in a 3-nanometer process in 2022.
Moreover, the two companies have plans to reinvent 2-nanometer GAA for next-generation data centers and infrastructure custom silicon, as well as a groundbreaking AI chiplet solution that will revolutionize the future generative AI mobile computing market.
The Korean company said the latest collaboration is based on years of partnership with millions of devices shipped with Arm CPU intellectual property on various process nodes offered by Samsung’s foundry business.
“As we continue into the Gen AI era, we are excited to extend our partnership with Arm to deliver the next generation Cortex-X CPU, enabling our mutual customers to create innovative products,” said Kye Jong-wook, head of foundry design platform development at Samsung Electronics.
