SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Korea Bizwire) Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it will expand the application of HDR10+, a next-generation high dynamic range (HDR) video technology, to IPTV and video games.

HDR10+, an open standard led by Samsung, refers to technology that delivers more vivid color displays by optimizing the level of brightness and contrast ratio scene by scene on TVs or mobile devices.

Samsung unveiled the HDR10+ gaming standard at thr Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas early this year and applied the standard for the TVs and monitors it released this year.

KT Corp., South Korea’s No. 2 wireless carrier, plans to apply the HDR10+ standard for its new set-top boxes scheduled to be introduced in the first quarter of next year.

HDR10+ videos also can be supported through the Apple TV application embedded in the Apple TV 4K and Samsung TV.

After establishing the HDR10+ Technology LLC in 2018 to expand the HDR10+ ecosystem, Samsung has been supporting technology for HDR10+ certification, logo program operations and content creation for free.

At present, 142 member companies around the world have released about 6,000 HDR10+-certified products.
