SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co.’s newest Galaxy S23 flagship smartphones set a new record in India for the number of pre-orders in a single day.
Raju Pullan, senior vice president of Samsung India, said that the number of pre-orders for the Galaxy S23 reached 140,000 units just 24 hours after its release, equivalent to sales of 14 billion rupees (US$169 million), according to foreign media outlets.
This is twice the number of pre-orders made for the previous Galaxy model on its first day of release.
Samsung is engaged in fierce competition with Chinese smartphones in the Indian market.
China’s Xiaomi accounted for 20 percent of the share of India’s smartphone market last year, becoming the country’s top smartphone seller, according to research firm Canalys. Samsung ranked second, with a market share of 19 percent.
