SEOUL, May 3 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries Co. has successfully developed a new floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility model with shorter delivery times.
The company announced on Tuesday it obtained a certification for its FLNG facility model from DNV, a Norwegian ship quality assurance and risk management company, at the Offshore Technology Conference 2023 held in Houston, Texas.
The multi-purpose LNG floater-nearshore (MLF-N) developed by Samsung Heavy offers higher economic value and shorter delivery times compared to land-based plants.
The shipyard standardized specifications and linearized the shape of the model based on its track record in FLNG facility development.
The MLF-N features a standardized shape of the LNG cargo hold and surrounding hull, making it possible to expand the capacity of the cargo hold within a range of 180,000 cubic meters up to 245,000 cubic meters.
Additionally, the vessel is designed to support approximately 50,000 tons of upper plant facilities, including natural gas liquefaction modules from below.
Samsung Heavy has greatly reduced engineering time by standardizing the optimal specifications of the main equipment being mounted on the cargo.
