SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it has joined hands with No. 2 mobile carrier KT Corp. to provide a next-generation communications network for a new bullet train line that serves a key Olympic venue.

It marks the first time that the long-term evolution railway network has been installed on a high-speed train, which reaches speeds of 250 kilometers per hour.

The network enables “high-speed wireless voice and data communications inside trains, from train to ground and from train to train,” Samsung said.

The new train line opened earlier in the day, connecting Wonju to Gangneung, one of the venues of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics slated for February.

Wonju is a city located some 130 kilometers east of Seoul and Gangneung is located 230 kilometers east of Seoul.

In April, Samsung offered the latest technology to Busan Metro Line No. 1.
