SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Korea Bizwire)The world’s leading electronics makers are converging on Berlin this week for IFA 2025, Europe’s largest consumer technology fair, where artificial intelligence and energy efficiency are expected to dominate the conversation as competition intensifies in the premium appliance market.

The five-day event, which begins September 5 under the theme “Imagine the Future,” will feature more than 1,800 companies from 138 countries. This year’s spotlight is on the escalating rivalry between South Korean and Chinese manufacturers, particularly in televisions and robotic vacuum cleaners, two categories emblematic of household technology’s next frontier.

In TVs, Chinese giants Hisense and TCL are pushing aggressively into RGB mini LED displays, while Samsung Electronics is countering with the world’s first “micro RGB TV,” boasting LED chips smaller than 100 micrometers and real-time AI image optimization. Sony has also signaled its entry into the RGB race, raising the prospect of a three-way battle among Korea, China and Japan.

The robot vacuum segment is similarly heating up. LG Electronics is unveiling two new “station” models, while Samsung has introduced a direct-drain system eliminating water tanks. Chinese makers Roborock, Ecovacs and Dreame are broadening the category with machines capable of cleaning windows and even maintaining lawns.

Energy efficiency remains a critical selling point in Europe, where high electricity costs have fueled demand for power-saving appliances. Samsung is showcasing an induction cooktop with top-tier A++ energy ratings, while LG is introducing 25 new refrigerators and washing machines tailored for European households.

Both companies are also promoting “AI home” ecosystems that promise lower utility bills alongside greater convenience. German premium brand Miele, traditionally focused on efficiency, is introducing AI-driven cooking solutions, underscoring the technology’s spread across the sector.

With the European appliance market estimated at 150 trillion won ($111 billion) this year and projected to grow 4.1 percent annually through 2030, IFA has become a critical battleground. The exhibition is also expanding beyond traditional appliances, with humanoid robots, beauty devices and mobility solutions on display — a reflection of how global brands are reimagining the future of everyday living.

“Europe is the world’s key premium appliance market,” said one industry executive. “This year’s IFA will show which companies can truly set themselves apart with innovation.”
