SEOUL, May 10 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s two electronics giants, Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc., are seeking bigger roles in the local market as the global personal computer (PC) market is mired in a slump.
In the laptop category, which is one of the main drivers of the PC market, Samsung and LG are not performing well overseas.
Consequently, they are now striving to defend their market share in the domestic market, which has been their strongest buttress.
Samsung unveiled three new models earlier this month, including the Galaxy Book3 laptop, Samsung All-in-One, and Samsung Desktop computers.
In the fourth quarter of last year, Samsung commanded a share of 19 percent of the global smartphone market and 8 percent of the global smartwatch market.
As for LG, its flagship laptop is the Gram Series, and this year’s new model is based on the concept of the thinnest notebook, featuring a thickness of 10.9 millimeters and a weight of only 990 grams.
The company is also placing more emphasis on marketing.
It released a limited edition in Gram Style in collaboration with the girl group NewJeans and also operated a pop-up store in collaboration with the fashion platform Musinsa.
