SEOUL, March 8 (Korea Bizwire)Samsung Electronics Co.’s OLED TV is unlikely to be released by year’s end as the company is demanding that panel suppliers cut their prices below the market price.

The tech giant demanded that LG Display Co. set the supply price of 65-inch panels at a level up to 20 percent lower than the supply price for LG Electronics Inc., according to industry sources.

LG Display, a major display panel maker in South Korea, originally proposed a 10 percent lower supply price but Samsung demanded a further cut.

Even for Samsung Display Co., Samsung Electronics demanded the supply price of quantum-dot (QD) OLED panels to be equivalent to that for LG Display.

The display panel-making arm of Samsung Group was unwilling to accept such a demand, saying that its QD OLED panels feature more advanced technology than LG Display’s OLED panels.

It appears that Samsung Electronics is in no rush to release an OLED TV into the market.

With sales of existing LCD TVs, including LED TVs, still robust, the need to also release OLED TVs is not strong. Accordingly, Samsung Electronics is unlikely to budge in its price negotiations.
