SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it will start mass production of Qualcomm Inc.’s new server processors manufactured with the 10 nm production process for the first time in the industry.
Under the foundry deal, the South Korean tech giant said it will produce the Centriq 2400, which is aimed at the data center market.
Samsung and Qualcomm have been maintaining close ties through foundry businesses. The South Korean firm also recently started production of mobile processors using 10 nm and 14 nm production technologies.
“Purpose built for the cloud, the Qualcomm Centriq 2400 server processor family delivers exceptional performance-per-watt and performance-per dollar,” Qualcomm said in a release.
“Samsung and Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies have expanded a decadelong strategic foundry collaboration to manufacture the Qualcomm Centriq 2400, the world’s first server processor built on industry’s first 10 nanometer FinFET process technology,” an official from Samsung said.
“Samsung’s 10 nm process technology with specific optimizations for high performance, combined with Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies’ leading-edge custom system-on-chip design, allow us to deliver a world-class server processor that will disrupt the data center market,” the official added.
