SEOUL, March 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Group has distributed gifts to all staff and associates currently under quarantine or working from home due to the coronavirus.
The company said on Thursday that it has sent out gifts to 2,500 employees currently under self-quarantine and 5,000 working from home, including 1,800 pregnant women, among 18 affiliates, subsidiaries, and partners.
Staff from partner companies who have received the gifts include those who manufacture semiconductors and parts for smartphones as well as janitors.
Samsung also sent gifts to staff undergoing medical treatment after being infected with the coronavirus.
Some 1,000 employees currently staying overseas due to quarantine or the work-from-home policy, as well as families of those who are spending extended periods abroad due to lack of replacements also received the gifts.
The gifts consisted of health supplements and essential goods including hand sanitizers, red ginseng, and vitamins, as well as letters from the CEOs of each affiliate.
For staff residing in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, hit hardest by the coronavirus, Samsung sent gifts to employees’ parents on both sides of the family with an enclosed letter from the CEO.
The gesture was made in consideration that many parents in the region are refusing to visit their children and choosing to separate themselves from society to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
“Together, we can pull through,” Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong said.
“Let us be more caring and encouraging in times of trouble. Let us do our best in our respective positions as we smile and face what’s ahead,” he said.
