Samsung Showcases Ocean Conservation Efforts at UN Conference with Coral Documentary

SEOUL, June 13 (Korea Bizwire) — In commemoration of World Oceans Day, Samsung Electronics unveiled its original documentary Coral in Focus at the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), held on June 11 in Nice, France. The screening highlighted the company’s commitment to marine conservation through technology-driven environmental initiatives.

UNOC, convened every three years, is the UN’s highest-level global forum on ocean policy and international cooperation. At this year’s gathering, Samsung spotlighted its Coral in Focus project, an effort to document and aid the restoration of coral reefs using its Galaxy smartphone technology.

The project focused on critical reef sites facing severe degradation — including Florida in the United States, Bali in Indonesia, and Viti Levu in Fiji. In partnership with local conservation groups, Samsung developed an “Ocean Mode” for underwater photography, enabling these organizations to capture high-resolution images of coral reefs using the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The documentary highlights both the fragile state of coral ecosystems and how mobile camera innovation can support marine biodiversity. According to Samsung, the initiative has led to the creation of 17 3D coral reef restoration maps and the successful replanting of over 11,000 coral units across 17,050 square meters of ocean habitat.

The full Coral in Focus documentary is available for public viewing on Samsung Electronics’ official YouTube channel.
