SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Korea Bizwire) — A video has gone viral featuring South Korean football star Son Heung-min, currently playing for the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, refusing to hold a fan’s iPhone for a selfie.

Son now serves as a PR ambassador for Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy brand, a rival to Apple’s tech products.

Although he used to use iPhones, he has been actively promoting the Galaxy brand since taking on his role as an ambassador.

In the video uploaded on the TikTok platform last Monday, Son politely declined a fan’s request for a selfie with an apologetic gesture, citing contractual obligations that prevent him from handling iPhones. Captions on the video explain that Son’s contract with Samsung is the reason behind this.

An official from Samsung Electronics clarified, “The contract does not contain any provisions prohibiting PR ambassadors from interacting with products from other companies. Nonetheless, we appreciate Son’s dedication to fulfilling his role as a PR ambassador.”

Son is also serving as a PR ambassador for Samsung’s home electronics. On August 28, he made an appearance in Samsung’s campaign video titled ‘SmartThings Life with Son Heung-min,’ in which he demonstrated how to connect and use home electronics like a TV, air conditioner and refrigerator, along with other devices such as speakers and lighting fixtures, using SmartThings.

In July, as he departed from Incheon International Airport, Son drew attention for wearing a brand-new Samsung Galaxy smartwatch.
