SEOUL, Aug. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics said on August 25 that it will begin rolling out a software update next month that applies its One UI operating system to artificial intelligence–powered home appliances, extending the same interface used across its smartphones and TVs into refrigerators, washers, and other connected devices.
The update, which applies to AI appliances released since 2024, is part of Samsung’s push to build an integrated ecosystem where software features operate seamlessly across mobile, television, and household devices. The company said the refresh expands the number of products eligible for AI upgrades and deepens the functions already available.
Among the new features, Family Hub refrigerators and those equipped with Samsung’s “AI Home” touchscreen will gain Now Preview, a tool that recommends personalized information based on usage habits. The Bixby voice assistant can now be activated not only by voice but also by double-tapping the refrigerator screen.
Other AI functions include Voice ID, which recognizes individual users to provide tailored responses, and expanded deployment of Samsung’s Knox security solution.
Samsung pledged to provide free One UI upgrades for up to seven years for Wi-Fi–enabled appliances launched since 2024, ensuring customers can access new AI features and enhanced security throughout a product’s life cycle.
