SEOUL, Jan. 11 (Korea Bizwire)Samsung Electronics Co. plans to expand the range of trade-in benefits (compensation for used products) from smartphones towards the entire spectrum of Galaxy products, including smartwatches and notebook PCs.

The tech giant expanded the scope of the trade-in program that it has implemented for the Galaxy Book Pro laptop, not only to its existing products but also to the entire model lineups of rivals such as LG Electronics Inc., according to industry sources.

In other words, Samsung broadened the scope of its trade-in program that has been effective in the smartphone sector, towards notebook PCs and wearable devices.

By offering credit even for products from rival companies, the company expects to attract users of products from other companies to its ecosystem.

It also expects the trade-in program to contribute to shortening the product replacement cycle as well as to boosting the sale of new models.

The trade-in program will be implemented on a non-face-to-face format. The program will be run by local ICT recycling company Mintit.

Mintit will offer a guide on the purchase price and additional compensation payment after taking delivery of used notebook PCs through a parcel service and checking their condition.

Samsung also recently launched a non-face-to-face trade-in program for the Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch. A credit of up to 100,000 won (US$83.56) is offered to those who return old models such as the Galaxy Watch 3 when buying the Galaxy Watch 4.
