SEOUL, Korea, May 2, 2014 (Korea Bizwire)Samsung Electronics has expanded its ultra-high definition (UHD) TV line-ups from premium products including curved UHD TV to low-cost mass-market models.

The world’s No. 1 TV manufacturer recently rolled out low-cost UHD TV models like HU7000 series of 40/50/55-inch products to rule the UHD TV market. The factory prices of the low-cost models are 1.89 million won for 40-inch screen, 2.49 million won for 50 inch and 3.79 million won for 55 inch. The relatively lower prices will benefit domestic consumers who feel reluctant to buy UHD TVs due to high prices.

Recently, UMAX, a UHD cable channel, began full commercial broadcasting and other UHD video contents are coming on stream, which will boost the demand for the UHD TVs. Samsung also expects that big sports events like the forthcoming FIFA World Cup which will be held in Brazil in June will add the demand more.

Samsung had unveiled its premium UHD TV line-ups of Curved UHD TV 65- and 55-inch models last February and began selling the products in the manner of presale. As the products are well received in the market, Samsung began taking preorders of extra-large curved UHD TV models including 78 and 105 inches. Especially for the 78-inch model, preorders were raised even before the presale.

The recently rolled-out low-cost UHD TV models enjoy positive consumer response and Samsung expects those low-cost TVs will become popular and contribute to the acceleration of UHD TV uptake.

An official at the marketing team of Samsung Electronics said, “The demand for UHD TVs are moving up as people’s needs for high-definition video contents increase. We expect the recent roll-out of low-cost UHD TV will lead the popularization of the UHD TVs and help secure our No. 1 TV manufacturer status in the world.”
