SEOUL, May 1 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday it agreed to supply its light-emitting diode (LED) display solution to a major Mexican theater chain last week, speeding up efforts to promote global sales of its premium cinema screen.
The company said it signed the agreement with the Mexico-based theater chain Cinemex on Friday to supply five units of its Onyx Theater solution. Cinemex plans to open the first theater with the Samsung LED display in October and gradually expand its number down the road.
The Samsung Onyx Theater is a light-emitting diode (LED) display brand of the South Korean tech giant, designed exclusively for cinemas.
The company said theaters installed with the solution produces brighter and more detail-rich content through “true, deep and realistic black colors” compared to screens using conventional projectors.
In November last year, Samsung also joined forces with Cinepolis, the biggest theater chain in the region.
Samsung said the number of theater screens in the Latin American market has been rising 5 percent annually, claiming the two business deals will help the company expand its presence in the region.
