SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Korea Bizwire)Samsung Electronics, Korea’s top tech giant, is set to introduce a device promising a better sleep at the forthcoming IFA 2015 to be held in Berlin, Germany, on September 4.

Samsung’s SLEEPsense connects to the Internet and home appliances to provide a better environment for sleeping, by analyzing the sleep patterns and sleep quality of its users.

With EarlySense technology, which is approved by the FDA, the device can accurately analyze movement, heartbeat and respiration during users’ sleep, and connect to various home electronics, such as TVs and air conditioners, to provide an optimized sleep environment.

For example, Samsung’s smart TVs turn off if SLEEPsense signals a user has fallen asleep, while an air conditioner linked to the Internet adjusts the room temperature. The results can be shared through smartphones, making it possible to monitor the health of elderly parents on a real-time basis.

SLEEPsense, which will be available this year, is the latest device in Samsung’s Internet-of-Things (IoT) lineup.

Samsung has been working on tapping deeper into the IoT segment through electronics equipped with smart features, in collaboration with its IoT specialized subsidiary, SmartThings, in a bid to build a new growth engine as its traditional mainstay handset business has remained sluggish over past quarters.

An official at Samsung said, “SLEEPsense will be one of the innovative Samsung products signaling its full-fledged advancement into the IoT world.”
