SEOUL, April 6 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. has been emphasizing the versatility of its mobile payment service, Samsung Pay, in its efforts to keep Apple Pay in check as the latter recently entered the South Korean market.
“Samsung Pay was a groundbreaking change that enabled consumers to pay without having to separately subscribe to a specific credit card company, while ensuring safe and convenience settlement for small and medium-sized merchants without the need to replace their existing payment terminals.” the tech giant said in the posting uploaded from its news room on Wednesday.
This comment can be interpreted as highlighting the weakness of Apple Pay, which is only available in a near field communication (NFC) format.
Samsung also stressed that it strengthened Samsung Pay’s online payment features, including a public transport card function, in collaboration with Naver Pay.
Samsung also shed light on a variety of Samsung Pay functions, including a digital key that can be used as a home or car key, a digital asset search that allows users to check virtual assets, and a ticket service to store airplane or movie tickets.
This move is aimed at highlighting the fact that Samsung Pay’s wallet replacement service is more versatile than Apple Pay, which has limited affiliated services in the South Korean market.
