NEWYORK, July 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics on Wednesday unveiled its latest generation of foldable smartphones — the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 — in a high-profile global launch event in Brooklyn, New York, touting major upgrades in form factor, artificial intelligence, and user experience.

The new devices are significantly thinner and lighter than their predecessors, while offering larger displays and a deeper integration of AI features powered by Google’s multimodal AI, Gemini Live.

The launch marks Samsung’s most aggressive push yet to define the future of mobile computing through AI-driven functionality, outpacing key rivals like Apple in the race to embed generative AI into everyday devices.

A Leap Forward in AI Integration

Both foldables incorporate Gemini Live, Google’s next-generation multimodal AI, enabling real-world contextual assistance. Users can simply point their camera at an object — a fridge, a wardrobe, or even a broken bicycle — to receive relevant suggestions, from meal planning and fashion coordination to repair instructions.

Voice-based functions allow for tasks like checking flight information or adding calendar events without touching the screen.

“Gemini Live turns your phone into an intelligent agent that understands and responds to your environment,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services. He also highlighted enhanced capabilities for Samsung’s AI-powered “Circle to Search,” which now supports deeper conversational interactions.

Samsung’s Mobile Experience COO Choi Won-joon described Galaxy AI as “a new user interface” that goes beyond personalization to anticipate user needs. “This isn’t just smart — it’s intuitive,” he said.

Galaxy Z Fold7: Thinner, Lighter, More Durable

The Galaxy Z Fold7 introduces a major design refinement. When folded, it measures just 8.9mm thick — comparable to a conventional bar phone — and 4.2mm when unfolded. Weighing only 215 grams, it is lighter than even Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Despite its slim profile, durability has been enhanced. Samsung debuted the new “Armor Flex Hinge” to evenly distribute external shocks, while the main display features a titanium build and ultra-thin glass 50% thicker than before. It also boasts a 200-megapixel wide-angle rear camera with improved low-light performance via an AI-powered “ProVisual Engine.”

The device offers a 6.5-inch external screen and a larger 8.0-inch main display — 11% bigger than its predecessor — optimized for multitasking, content creation, and immersive entertainment.

Combined with Samsung’s new One UI 8 and Gemini Live, the Fold7 delivers a distinctly AI-driven multitasking experience, distinguishing it from conventional smartphones.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 sports a larger front display (4.1 inches, up from 3.4) with ultra-thin bezels, enabling users to operate AI features without opening the phone. The main display has also expanded from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. The Flip7 runs on Samsung’s Exynos 2500 chip and emphasizes portability without sacrificing performance.

Samsung also introduced a more affordable Flip7 FE, maintaining the design and performance of the Flip6 while targeting a broader consumer base.

Strategic Positioning

With its latest foldables and AI integration, Samsung is pushing the smartphone experience into a new frontier where hardware, software, and AI are deeply interwoven. President Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung’s DX Division, called the Fold7 “the most advanced smartphone experience Samsung has ever delivered,” combining intuitive design with immersive power.

As Samsung seeks to redefine mobile technology, this launch sets the tone not only for the foldables market but for the broader trajectory of AI-enabled consumer electronics.
