SEOUL, Sept. 19 (Korea Bizwire) – In a milestone for consumer technology in space exploration, Samsung Electronics announced on September 18 that its Galaxy Watch5 was utilized in a body composition monitoring study during the Polaris Dawn project, the first-ever civilian spacewalk mission.
The study, led by the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, aimed to monitor human physiological responses and health conditions in space, with a particular focus on preventing muscle loss risks.
Astronauts wore the Galaxy Watch5, equipped with advanced bioactive sensors, throughout the mission.
Samsung highlighted the advantages of the Galaxy Watch5 over traditional bulky and heavy body composition monitoring equipment.
The company emphasized that the wearable device provided accurate body composition monitoring in a compact and easily wearable form factor, making it particularly suitable for the constraints of space travel.
The body composition monitoring feature of the Galaxy Watch series analyzes various metrics including skeletal muscle mass, basal metabolic rate, and body water content.
Samsung claims this comprehensive data helps users accurately assess their physical condition.
