SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co.’ next-generation dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) GDDR7 has won a presidential award during a major tech exhibition for its cutting-edge technology optimized for the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, the company said Wednesday.

The South Korean tech giant said its 24-gigabit GDDR7 DRAM was given the prize during the Korea Tech Festival 2025, which kicked off in Seoul for a three-day run.

Compared with high bandwidth memory (HBM) products, GDDR7 offers better cost and energy efficiency, along with a lightweight design, making it suitable for AI servers amid rising demand for generative graphic content.

Industry watchers said Samsung Electronics’ cooperation with U.S. tech giant Nvidia Corp. is expected to further bolster the presence of Samsung’s GDDR7 in the market as well.

“The production capacity of Samsung Electronics’ production line in Pyeongtaek is set to more than double as Nvidia recently asked Samsung to expand supplies of GDDR7 products,” said Kim Dong-won, a researcher at KB Securities Co.

Samsung has been making efforts to bolster its memory business, launching a new organization dedicated to its development during a reshuffle in November.

During the event, Samsung SDI Co. also won an industry minister award for the Samsung Battery Box (SBB), an all-in-one energy storage system (ESS) noted for its fire safety and cost reduction features.

“We have established industry-leading competitiveness in ESS safety technologies,” Samsung SDI said in a release. “By combining the durability advantages of prismatic batteries with our advanced safety technologies, we will further reinforce our position in the domestic ESS market.”
