SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea Institute of Science and Technology said Wednesday it has developed a new technology that can replace high-temperature, high-pressure energy used for the production of hydrogen peroxide with photovoltaic energy, thus improving overall productivity.

Hydrogen peroxide is a core material used in chip production. However, a stable supply of hydrogen peroxide is uncertain due to the pandemic situation and the explosive growth of semiconductor production demand.

The existing thermochemical process for the production of hydrogen peroxide requires high energy consumption and creates environmental issues such as greenhouse gas emissions.

Against this backdrop, there is a growing need to develop an alternative eco-friendly technology that can ensure a stable supply of hydrogen peroxide.

The research team developed a photocatalytic reaction solution using the organic solution generated in the thermochemical process to increase the oxygen reduction capability of the photocatalyst.

The actual analysis showed that the output of hydrogen peroxide was greatly increased.

When controlling the photocatalyst and organic solution, the research team used solar energy and succeeded in producing 5.3 percent of hydrogen peroxide per unit hour and gram of photocatalyst, five times higher than the minimum industrial output standard.
