CHUNCHEON, South Korea, Jun. 11 (Korea Bizwire) — The season’s first tropical night hit the eastern coastal city of Gangneung on Monday, occurring a week earlier than last year, the weather agency said Tuesday.
A tropical night refers to when the lowest temperature does not fall below 25 C between 6:01 p.m. and 9 a.m. the next day, and the lowest morning temperature in Gangneung, 163 kilometers east of Seoul, was 25 C on Tuesday, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).
It marks the country’s first tropical night this year, occurring seven days earlier than last year.
“The morning low in Gangneung rebounded after falling to 25 C at 5:53 a.m. If the temperature does not drop below that, Monday will officially be recorded as the first tropical night of the year in Gangwon Province,” an official at the KMA’s Gangwon branch said.
