WASHINGTON, Dec. 7 (Korea Bizwire) – The global headquarters of e-commerce giant Coupang Inc. in Seattle is facing a class-action lawsuit, adding to a wave of complaints already lodged in South Korea over a massive personal data breach that affected more than 30 million customers.
SJKP, the U.S. branch of Daeryun law firm, said during a press conference Sunday (local time) it will announce plans to file the lawsuit seeking punitive damages against Coupang on Monday.
An official at Daeryun told Yonhap News Agency that the law firm will pursue litigation simultaneously in South Korea and the U.S.
On Nov. 29, Coupang disclosed that the personal information of 33.7 million customers — nearly its entire user base — had been compromised, including their names, phone numbers, email addresses and delivery details.
Coupang’s massive data breach is the latest in a series of similar incidents at South Korean companies, including top mobile carrier SK Telecom.
