SEOUL, June 11 (Korea Bizwire)Due to dwindling income following the coronavirus outbreak, self-employed business owners as well as wage workers are being driven to work two jobs, a recent survey revealed.

Incruit, an online job portal, conducted a survey of 1,599 men and women with recent experience looking for a part-time job, 13.5 percent of whom said they were already working two jobs.

At 35.7 percent, slightly more than one third said they were considering getting a second job, showing that almost half of all respondents already had two jobs or were considering getting another one.

In particular, 5 in 10 self-employed business owners (47.4 percent) and 2 in 10 wage workers (22.1 percent) said they already had a second job.

Another 21.1 percent of self-employed business owners and 44.7 percent of wage workers were considering getting a second job.

Age-wise, respondents in their 40s were most likely to be working two jobs (20.8 percent), followed by those in their 50s (18.5 percent), 30s (17.5 percent), and 20s (10.7 percent).

Respondents pointed to the financial impact caused by the coronavirus as the main reason for getting a second job, with 45.1 percent saying that they got a second job after their main job was affected by the coronavirus.

Another 35.4 percent said they needed extra income.

Roughly two thirds of self-employed business owners and 35.5 percent of wage workers said they were now making less money at their primary jobs, showing how the coronavirus has taken a toll on society, Incruit said.
