SEOUL, Sept. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — Food manufacturers are jumping into the care food business for seniors as customized meal products for seniors are expected to grow in demand alongside an aging population.
Pulmuone Foodmerce, the distribution arm of South Korean food producer Pulmuone Co, signed a memorandum of understanding with Aria Care Korea, an elderly care service provider last week to promote senior food care.
Both companies will engage in big data research to create customized meals for seniors as well as include food care service as part of their integrated home care services.
CJ Freshway Corp., a food service affiliate of CJ Group, also concluded an agreement with Visiting Angels Korea, an elder care service provider.
Both companies are preparing to launch ‘Healthy Nuri,’ a new food brand that offers seniors with soft, low-sodium and high-protein food.
The food market for soft and easily digestible food, popular among the elderly, is expanding. Soft food helps senior customers who have trouble chewing, while easy-to-digest food helps those with weak digestive systems.
Sales of the two soft meals produced by local food producer Ourhome have jumped by 87 percent since last year. Ourhome’s client base also grew by 90 percent over the same period.
