TAEBAEK, Jan. 13 (Korea Bizwire)An elderly person in his late 60s visited the administrative welfare center in Taebaek, Gangwon Province on Tuesday.

He carried a 20-kilogram liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder.

“This is a piggy bank that I made for myself. The amount of money I saved is not much but I hope it will be spent to help out neighbors in need,” he said.

As he said, the gas cylinder had a hole large enough to insert coins, just like a piggy bank.

An official from the center cut the gas cylinder and found it to be full of coins.

Most of them were 10-won coins and some were 50-won coins.

The total value of the coins was 188,310 won (US$152).

“I’m a recipient of the basic livelihood security program, but I collected the coins for 27 years to help out the neighbors who are in a more difficult situation than me,” the elderly person said.

He added that he does not want to disclose his name.
