SEOUL, June 19 (Korea Bizwire) —Seoul, Gyeonggi, and other central regions were placed under heat advisories on Monday due to the intense midday heat.
Individuals spending time outdoors are actively seeking shaded areas to cool off, and the presence of parasol shades has become vital infrastructure throughout the country, offering significant assistance.
The large parasols that were installed by Seocho-gu, Seoul, a few years ago at crosswalks and traffic islands, have received recognition from the European Union and the U.K. Environment Agency as recipients of the “Green Apple Awards” for their outstanding design.
The remarkable heat protection provided by the ‘parasol effect’ was evident on Monday when a thermal imaging camera captured the temperature difference between the area under the umbrella and the surrounding area. This effect, also known as the umbrella effect, occurs as suspended aerosols in the air block sunlight and prevent temperature elevation.
