SEOUL, Mar. 4 (Korea Bizwire) –Seoul Asan Medical Center has been recognized as the highest-rated hospital in South Korea according to a recent evaluation by the American magazine Newsweek, ranking 22nd globally.
The evaluation, conducted in collaboration with the global research firm Statista, surveyed over 85,000 healthcare professionals across 30 countries to compile the ‘World’s Best Hospitals 2024′ list. Out of more than 2,400 hospitals evaluated, only 250 were selected for their excellence.
Improving seven spots from last year, Seoul Asan Medical Center not only secured the 22nd position worldwide but also maintained its status as the top hospital in South Korea for the sixth consecutive year.
The evaluation criteria included a 45% weighting on online surveys from doctors, health professionals, and hospital managers, 35.25% on medical performance indicators, 16.25% on patient satisfaction, and 3.5% on the implementation of patient health status self-assessments.
For Korean hospitals, assessments from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, medication appropriateness, and patient experience were also considered.
The Mayo Clinic in the United States claimed the top spot in the global rankings, followed by the Cleveland Clinic, Toronto General Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital rounding out the top five.
Besides Seoul Asan Medical Center, other South Korean hospitals like Samsung Medical Center, Severance Hospital, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, and Gangnam Severance Hospital also made it into the top 100.
Samsung Medical Center was ranked 34th globally and second in South Korea, with Severance Hospital at 40th, Seoul National University Hospital at 43rd, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital at 81st, and Gangnam Severance Hospital at 94th.
In a separate evaluation by Newsweek for ‘World’s Best Hospitals 2024′ in various clinical areas, Seoul Asan Medical Center achieved first place in South Korea across six specialties, including endocrinology, urology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery.
Notably, the hospital ranked within the top 10 globally in most of these fields, with endocrinology at 3rd, urology at 4th, gastroenterology at 5th, oncology at 6th, and neurology at 8th.
