SEOUL, March 23 (Korea Bizwire) — About 1,800 Seoul citizens made a joint declaration to reduce the use of plastics at the Han River and streams in the Seoul area.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Wednesday hosted a special event marking World Water Day to celebrate the “No Plastic Han River” joint citizen action day.
The declaration ceremony was held at the waterside stage of the Banpo Han River Park, attended by about 500 Seoul citizens.
Recyclable papers were used for the decoration of the stage and the banners were made of waste paper boxes.
Following the declaration ceremony, six private companies, four public institutions and 500 citizens teamed up to go plogging — jogging or walking while picking up litter.
In addition, 25 district volunteer centers, together with about 1,300 citizens, carried out ecological environment preservation activities at five Han River parks and major streams in the Seoul area.
