SEOUL, July 17 (Korea Bizwire) – Amid a wave of requests from foreign city governments to learn from the experience of Seoul City, the city government has published an online edition of its “Policy Archive” (www.seoulsolution.kr) in two languages in Korean and English. The website makes available a wealth of information on the city’s urban management know-how including 100 case studies for the past 50 years of urbanization experience.
The site also offers pages for those interested to ask more detailed questions and private-public partnership opportunities. According to a city government official, the city government has received numerous requests from foreign cities for specific policy issues and benchmarking purposes but was unable to respond effectively because of the lack of proper channels.
The site is organized into four menus, including introduction, Seoul solution, contact us, and library. In the “Best Practice Policies” sub-menu, for example, visitors can find nine categories of policy issues such as urban planning, transportation, metro, water supply, environment, and e-government.
The user can then find information and case studies for each issue so that policymakers in foreign city governments can use the information for their own purpose.
In a menu called “Overseas City Information,” private contractors can find information on business leads and overseas opportunities to work with the city government. The contractors can also invite public officials of a city in which they will work to Seoul and have them inspect sites and sit in on briefings held by Seoul city government officers.
YooYeon-shik, head of the international cooperation division in the Seoul city government, said, “With the opening of the Policy Archive website, we could make it easier for foreign city officials and international organization policymakers to get access to information on our own policy experience. I believe this will serve as an excellent platform for the city government and private sector participants to expand overseas for public works projects.”
