SEOUL, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Thursday it will install transportation means such as monorails and inclined and vertical elevators in eight areas of the city where pedestrian and vehicle access is difficult due to steep hills.
An inclined monorail with an extension of 110 meters will be installed at Daehyeonsan Reservoir Park in Jung District. In Yongsan, Seongdong and Seodaemun districts, the city decided to build inclined elevators.
After establishing a basic plan by June, the city plans to begin construction in October and complete work by the end of next year.
Last July, Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon noted the use of escalators in hillside slums on his visit to Colombia.
The Colombian government has been operating a 384-meter-long escalator since 2011 for the convenience of residents in the Comuna13 slum district located in the hilly region west of Medellin.
